MIYABI is an entity working in the field of construction on the basis of renewable energy sources. It is an asset for the environment and society, but above all to consumers. Housing units are heated and cooled by geothermic energy, the temperature is uniform in all parts of the house or apartment and there are no draughts.
Based on this philosophy, users pay a quarter of the cost of heating and cooling a traditional housing unit.
In two years, MIYABI aims to build houses/apartments and reduce their energy consumption to 1/7 of current levels. This model could also be applied to subsidised housing.
The objective is to build a housing unit without a construction oncost that would consume 10 kWh per m2 a year, against the 70 kWh per m2 consumed by a 'conventional' house or apartment.
In 4m2 we receive sufficient energy from the sun to cover the annual needs of a housing unit. The right approach means that both active and passive strategies can be used to exploit solar energy. Measures include better insulation and sealing of the building and generating the thermal energy needed in the most efficient manner.
The benefits for society and the environment are immediate. Spain imports 90% of the energy it consumes, and our ability to generate energy internally is almost exhausted. This why more work needs to be done on the efficiency with which this energy is consumed.
An ambitious project that MIYABI will undertake shortly is the development of the 'Innovation Cubes' at Sarriguren, near Pamplona. These are innovative 400 m2 constructions from both the architectural and bioclimatic points of view.
