Set up in 2002, Cromasa IE offers innovative systems
for the electronic identification of animals for slaughter and pets.
In the current financial year the company has registered between six and eight patents based on its R&D.
It provides an integrated response to the management needs of any type of livestock farm.
Sodena (28.78%) and Start Up Capital Navarra (20.56%) have both strengthened the project by Cromasa
Identificación Electrónica, S.A., located on the Berrianz industrial estate in Berriozar (near Pamplona),
which is now in the launch phase. Set up in March 2002, its partners are mainly engineers who are
specialists in the fields of telecommunications and software engineering
The company, with innovative systems and a clear R&D component, works on the design, assembly
and distribution of elements for the individualised electronic identification of animals for
slaughter and pets, to improve food traceability and contribute to the efficient management
of livestock farms. It also works on the creation of software and the design of installations
and management systems for the identified animals.
At present, Cromasa IE, an organisation focused on the development of its own technology,
is one of the Spanish companies that best responds to needs related to electronic identification
in the livestock sector. This activity has seen a considerable increase due to EU requirements
on the identification of animals.
In its investment plan for the current year (650,000 euros), which will be financed through
the extension of capital subscribed by Sodena and Start Up, we would highlight two laboratories
(one for quality control and the other for R&D), which, together with a laser marking system,
represent almost 65% of the total cost. Thanks to a strong technological and research culture
between six and eight patents will be registered this year.
The company also produces computer and electronic systems to attend to the management needs
of entities in the food sector, mainly: farms, abattoirs, cutting plants, drying rooms for ham
open livestock farms, designations of origin, etc.
This facet of its activity enables Cromasa IE to provide a comprehensive response to the
management needs of any type of livestock rearing facility. The company develops automated
systems for farm management, e.g. automatic feeding troughs that dose the feed when the animal
approaches, on the basis of parameters established for each animal.
This new company was born as a result of the evolution of the companies Insprovet, S.L. and
Crotales Marcados, S.A.(Cromasa), Navarre-based companies that distributed veterinary instruments
and livestock material since 1992, together with their own plastic tags for the visual
identification of animals. In Spain they have 1,200 customers and three thousand references,
being able to deliver orders in 24 hours. Some of their sales will be in the international market,
exporting to countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Portugal, Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela.
