During four days in March, in the streets and bars of the Old Part of Pamplona you could hear conversations about 'spins', 'squids', 'quantum moments' and 'elementary particles' involving young people with black briefcases.

Navarre has joined Fundación Genoma España, a project whose aim is to promote business initiatives with a biotechnological base and to develop genome and proteome research. The Government of Navarre has joined the Governing Board of Fundación Genoma España, which is composed of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Science, the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Regional Minister of Health of the region of Madrid, the Xunta de Galicia and Laboratorios Esteve. |

| The CIMA has generated 18 patents since it opened one year ago |

“326 people from 17 countries work in the centre,
of the 350 initially forecast”
The Centro de Investigación Aplicada (CIMA) of the Universidad
de Navarra is celebrating its first anniversary. During this time the research
carried out has generated 18 patents.
The Centre reports that three patents have been granted for Spain and (as the case may be) other
countries such as Germany, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Holland, Sweden, Russia, China,
Australia and Mexico. The patents are for interferon alpha 5 (for viral problems in the liver), inhibiting
peptides of the TGF Beta 1 growth factor (for a chronic skin disease) and cardiotrophine (for liver diseases).
Among the patents applied for is one, anphirreguline, which protects the liver during acute hepatic failure.

By 2006 Senda Viva aims to build the largest water maze in Europe with a surface
area of 300 square metres. It will be located in the lower area of the park near the fairground and
the sandwich bar. |

In its 150th issue, Negocios en Navarra
magazine has published a special supplement dedicated to 40
years of industrialization in Navarre, the starting point
being the 40th anniversary of the approval of the PPI (Industrial
Promotion Programme) approved in 1964 by the Diputación (Territorial
Administration) of Navarre, whose President was Félix
Huarte Goñi.
