"Biotechnology, a future sector for Navarre", by Mª Eugenia Lecumberri

The Government of Navarre has always shown strong support for Technology Plans, and Sodena has been an active partner in driving scientific projects in the region.

During the seminar titled “Biotechnology, a future sector for Navarre” held in the Baluarte Congress Centre in Pamplona on 26th January this year María Eugenia Lecumberri, who is a member of Sodena’s Project Management team, stressed that investment in technology projects is one of the main factors in making the economy of Navarre highly competitive.

Sodena is currently collaborating in three projects in the biotechnology area by providing experience, objective criteria for selection and analysis, and funding.

One of the most widely recognised initiatives on a national level is the CIMA-DIGNA project, in which the company DIGNA Biotech develops the intellectual property of the CIMA (Centre for Applied Medical Research) at the pre-clinical, clinical and commercial levels.

Furthermore, Navarre has joined the Genoma España Foundation, a project to drive biotechnology-based business initiatives that also involves the regions of Catalonia, Galicia and Madrid.

Together with these two initiatives, there is a project for the creation of a protein production plant that has arisen from DIGNA’s need to use bio-molecules. The initiative is sponsored by Sodena, Idifarma and Derivatives of Recombinants Organisms (DRO) and will represent an investment of 6 million euros.
